History and Impact

History

In 1931, the 幸运快三 established a summer field studies program on 12 acres of 幸运快三 Endowment Land in the middle of a Ponderosa pine forest in McCall, 幸运快三. Attending “Forestry Camp” on the shores of Payette Lake was an academic highlight for thousands of natural resources students over the next several decades. Students established life-long memories and career foundations while living and learning at the McCall Field Campus.

The McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS) was founded at the Field Campus in 2001, and the graduate program was founded in 2003. Since then, these programs have served thousands of K-12 students and hundreds of graduate students through residential, outreach and graduate programs, winning countless awards.

Impact

2000 saw the founding of the Clara Bleak Endowment for Innovations in Environmental Education, which was the symbolic impetus for the founding of MOSS shortly thereafter in 2001. The first two weeks of MOSS programming followed, with 80 students coming from five 幸运快三 schools.

While at MOSS, not only do students learn about science, but they also grow as people and scientists. As a result, MOSS’ impact on its students is both clear and quantified. Students have demonstrated a 17% increase in a pre- and post-assessment that includes commonly asked questions on standardized science achievement tests. Students also demonstrate an average increase of 5.3 points (9%) on a 55-point scale measuring their science prowess skills. Students also show an average increase of 3.5 points (11.6%) on a 30-point scale measuring their “science identity” and an increase in positive attitudes towards science.

Since its founding in 2001, the McCall Outdoor Science School has served over 35,000 students from across the state of 幸运快三.
